The American Essentials Film Festival returns this May to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra with a specially curated selection of American cinema from the Festival circuit.
Good news – most films within the festival will be accessible to youth aged 15 and over.
Our team will be covering the festival and are looking forward to:
Stuck – What else are you going to do when stuck in the New York subway with six strangers? Sing, of course. Stuck is based on the award-winning Off-Broadway musical.
I Kill Giants – Based on the acclaimed graphic novel. It tells the story of a defiant teenage girl who struggles through school and family life by escaping into a fantasy world where she fights evil giants.
Killer of Sheep – In the Postcards from LA strand – this 1977 film is a highlight – “Charles Burnett’s portrait of a struggling African-American family in L.A.’s Watts neighbourhood influenced generations of filmmakers and is widely regarded as an American masterpiece.”
Kodachrome – Elizabeth Olsen stars in the film with Ed Harris. A journey across America to reach the last photo lab able to process Kodachrome film before it closes for good.
